Yorai Linenberg’s PhD, from the London School of Economics, dealt with the experience of American and British Jewish POWs in German captivity during the Second World War. His book on this subject entitled, Jewish Soldiers in Nazi Captivity, will be published by Oxford University Press in 2024. The book examines the German policy towards non-Soviet Jewish POWs, explores their experience in German POW camps, and looks into how they maintained their Jewish identity in captivity. An article about the segregation of American and British Jewish POWs in German POW camps will be published in the journal Holocaust and Genocide Studies later this year.
For his next project, Yorai will be looking at the background of German POW camp commandants to try to understand the motivation of those who tried to protect the Jewish captives who were under their control.
Yorai holds an MSc in Physics and an MBA, both from the Tel Aviv University.
