Through an examination of pro-Palestinian demonstrations and the Israel boycott movement, we will discuss the images of Palestine and Israel used by Muslim organizations and representatives, we will ask whether distinctions have been made between Israelis, Zionists and Jews, and whether antisemitism and anti-Zionism expressed by Muslims has been different from antisemitism and anti-Zionism emanating from left-wing groupsĀ and the mainstream. We will demonstrate that perceptions of conflicts in the Middle East are often overlaid by memories of the Holocaust, by debates about colonialism, and an increasing anti-Muslim racism in Europe. Finally, we will discuss the various definitions of antisemitism invoked, not least by protagonists to defend themselves against charges of antisemitism.
