“I realised that there were two choices: you can either give up and within two or three days you are dead, or you fight to live and adjust yourself to the situation, ‘by hook or by crook’. I chose the latter.” Freddie Knoller, survivor of Auschwitz

Holocaust history is heavily indebted to oral and written testimonies. However, the opportunity to hear Holocaust survivors first hand is increasingly rare.

At this important event, Freddie Knoller, survivor of Auschwitz and Jean-Marc Dreyfus, Holocaust Historian, talk about persecution, internment and survival. A public discussion follows.

Freddie Knoller was born in Vienna in 1921. After fleeing to France, he spent two years in occupied Paris before being caught by the Vichy Police and deported to Auschwitz in October 1943. Freddie published his memoirs: Desperate Journey: Vienna-Paris-Auschwitz (2002).
