Is it possible to represent the greatest crimes of the 20th century in film?

Reflect on artists’ responsibilities when dealing with genocide at a new open seminar series, sponsored by the Pears Institute. For those who wish to discuss some of the controversies of representing genocide in films, an open discussion will follow the screening.

The Killing Fields  is about the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia, based on the experiences of two journalists,  Cambodian Dith Pran and American Sydney  Schanberg. The film, which won three Academy Awards, was directed by Roland Joffé and stars Sam Waterston as Schanberg, Haing  S. Ngor as Dith Pran, with Julian Sands and John Malkovich. (1984)
